A baby's baptism or christening is a special time to celebrate with your friends and family. As one starts looking for ideas on how to throw a fine party we encourage starting with the invitation. The day of a baptism or christening is a joyful happening. It should be shared with and celebrated with all of the child's loved ones. In some families, the ceremony is rich in religious value. In others, the sacred time is simply a standing family tradition. Its focus can be more about presenting the newborn baby than anything else. In every case, the baptism or christening is about love above and beyond anything else. It's about gathering a community of support. This can be found in family, friends, and members of the congregation as much as it's about a promise to raise a child to honor and love the Creator. After the ceremony is a time of celebration. The beauty of gathering those who love the new baby together to honor the miracle of life. Embracing the day, and joyfully soaking up the celebration is key! Invite close friends, family and a group of spiritual sojourners to attend the ceremony itself. Hosting a celebration of some kind after the service is a joyful time to be shared by all. Create your invitation if you're going the more traditional with your ceremony and reception, choose a classic design including religious symbols of a cross or dove. You can choose to include a photo of your little guest of honor on the invitation for an added dash of allure. A picture of your baby adorned in white, symbolizes purity. It is most appropriate for a baptism or christening invitation to keep things elegant. The child in his or her birthday suit can be tastefully done. Swaddled in a delicate blanket a sweet look for a baptism or christening invitation. Choose a typographic layout to create a modern look for an age-old tradition. If the ceremony will be held during a regular church service, you may want to talk with the pastor, minister or priest about how many guests would be appropriate. It is best to send invitations between four and six weeks in advance – especially for out of town guests who are expected to make the trip. Make sure to include accommodation options. You can feel free to give out an invitation just to the ceremony itself. Make sure that it is made clear on your invitation what kind of party to expect. You might make a note on the invitation that guests will be invited to join you for a reception or lunch after the service. Often times the church will have a room for you that you can use. A local restaurant is always a fun choice. Or host a party in your home after the service. One way or another, make sure you make time to visit. After the service, EVERYONE will agree that this is a baby who is loved. "How tenderly He loves them, the children of this earth. How carefully He guides them, from the moment of their birth. How lovingly He looks upon them, sweet and fair. May He always keep our little one safe within His care." |
